I normally need at least 8 hours of beauty sleep a night.  In the last 2 days I've slept a total of 9 hours.  Why?

King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo

It's been a long time since I've cried so much from watching a kdrama, but trust me it's not one of those sappy "the-protagonist-ends-up-with-some-strange-cancer-after-he/she-is-reunited- with-his/her-lover".  
There are a total of 30 episodes, and each episode is an hour long.  So far I've plowed through 18 episodes in the last 3 days (keep in mind Friday was a work day), and I'm hoping to get through all 26 that are currently available before work on Tuesday.  Thank goodness J's in NY, and the parent have left for CA; I feel like I've grown roots into the computer chair.  I just realized that aside from my 12-mile run this morning, I've been in front of the computer all day (no nap, and eating all three meals in the study).

Pink Lipstick

Lately, I have been somewhat neglectful with regard to this blog, because I've been too busy watching 'Pink Lipstick'.  Now I'm back because I've ploughed through all 110 episodes that are currently uploaded, and now I how have to wait as the rest are uploaded.

Another one of these Kdramas that can get 'draggy', but thanks to the internet I can fast forward through the molasses.

Sleep Deprivation

It's been a while since I've found a kdrama that's been able to captivate me, and keep me up way past my bedtime.  I've recently stumbled upon this historical drama - 同伊 that has turned me into a neglectful wife and 'mom'.

I think the lead actress (to the right) looks a little like the kids' aunt V.

The Power Of Kdrama 2

Do not underestimate the power of Kdrama.  A while a ago I had gone out to buy a bottle of soju to try after watching everyone downing soju in these dramas.  A month ago I had mistakenly thought that I was pregnant, because I was watching several dramas where the girls were all pregnant (It certainly didn't help that the store brand pregnancy kit gave me an inconclusive test result, twice!  Trust me, that was the most depressing and harrowing 3 weeks of my life thinking that I may be pregnant.  J & I thought our lives as we know it was over.  Luckily, it was all psychosomatic; J said I was simply psycho). 
Now I'm watching 'The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry' - about a single woman in her 30s dating a man in his 20s, and is making me want to be a cougar, especially if the cub is Kim Bum : )

Rain Rain Everywhere

If I didn't know any better, I would have thought that I was still living in NYC.  The unrelenting rain started last night and didn't stop until this evening.  As a result, I missed my 12 mile run today.  There was no way I was going to run even 1 mile, let alone 12 on the treadmill, so I just moved the run to this coming Wednesday.  I was so looking forward to this run because I had just mapped out the route with hills galore.  Instead, I spent all day watching this new Kdrama 'Pasta'.  

Hopefully Wednesday's weather will cooperate.

The Power Of Kdrama

If you watch enough kdrama, you'll invariably see scenes where the characters are drinking soju（燒酒）。I've always been curious what it must taste like; and thought it must be some good stuff because everyone's drinking it and drinking themselves into oblivion.  So, I picked up one at Lee Lee today...

This is basically vodka 'lite'.  Why?  Because it tastes just like Vodka but with 1/2 the alcohol content.  Grey Goose vodka is 40% alcohol and this bottle of soju is 19%.  However, even with a smaller amount of alcohol, it still knocked me for a loop.  I only had 2-3 ozs and I ended up taking a 3-hour nap.  I'll stick to wine from now on, and this little bottle of soju will probably stay on the refrigerator shelf for eternity, just like it's Russian cousin that's been in the freezer for the past 5 years.

Catching Up

This cold is a bit unrelenting.  Five days into it and I'm still hacking away like a chain smoker.  Took yesterday off because I wasn't feeling well.  Took today off even though I'm feeling better (was able to run 5 miles this morning), because I don't have much of a voice, and I can't stop coughing once I start talking.  I'm pretty sure patients won't appreciate that.  In the meantime I got a chance to catch up on my kdrama that I've neglected to watch since coming back from our Argentina trip.  Currently watching 4 dramas.

"Loving You A Thousand Times" (This one's the best, and it makes me appreciate 3 things: 
1. my laid back and easy going in-laws
2. the fact that I don't have to live with my in-laws
3. and last but not least, my wonderful husband

"Don't Hesitate" (we'll see how this one goes, as it has 100 episodes, and I'm not one known to have a lot of patience when it comes to shows with more than 20 episodes.  There's going to be a lot of fast forwarding with this one.)

"Will It Snow For Christmas" (The lead actress is terrible at acting, but the lead actor is absolutely 'delish' - reminds me of 郭富城.)

"Autumn's Concerto" (This is a Taiwanese drama, and it's actually quite good.  As opposed to the actress above, 安以軒 is a talented actress and a natural beauty.)

Interestingly, the kid in this show is the son of the the kid who played 小彬彬 (kid in the yellow sweater) in 星星知我心 that aired back in the 80's.  See the resemblance?

A Curious Thing Happened...

I'll be the first to admit that I've been hooked on Korean drama for the last few years.  Not sure what the draw is, as the majority of the drama are based on outlandish and unrealistic plots.  So J makes fun of me and calls them 'K porn' since he thinks they're all mindless yet addicting.  Even though I can often predict the ending to the 'T', I still gravitate to them as the Korean entertainment industry churns these drama out like there's no tomorrow.  However, a curious thing happened a few days ago.  As I was watching one of the 'historical' drama titled 'Queen Seon Duk', J peered at my screen, and within 5 minutes he was sold!  I can't say that this drama is any more realistic than the other ones, as I would think it is 'loosely' based on historical facts.  But I'm not one to complain, because now I have a partner in crime, and I don't feel quite so silly watching these anymore.  The only downside is that I now have to wait for him to be done with whatever it is he's doing at the moment before I can start a new episode.
